Detailed Answers

  1. Must I personally have a disability or chronic medical condition to apply for a job with NTI?

Yes. NTI's mission is to work with individuals with disabilities who strongly prefer or require home-based employment.

You must eventually submit written certification of your disability before you be offered a job via NTI. Either a physician or a Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) office in your state must provide a letter verifying that you have a chronic medical condition or disability. An NTI Representative will ask you for this certification at the appropriate step during your application. Do not provide it until then.

If you are uncertain whether your medical condition is sufficiently significant for an NTI job, ask to speak to a recruitment manager or HR Director at NTI.

  2. Do I need a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor?

You do not need to be a client of your state VR agency at the time you first submit an application to NTI. However, if both you and your NTI interviewer consider you appropriate for NTI employment, we will require you to register with your state VR agency before entering training.

  6. Can NTI match me with part-time or full-time telework?

Yes. NTI provides access to both part-time and full-time positions. In some cases, NTI recommends that applicants who are uncertain if they have the stamina for full-time work start with part-time work and demonstrate success before moving to full-time telework.

  7. Do I need to have a home office with a computer, telephone headset, and high-speed Internet connection before I apply for a telework job?

No. However, once you are given a job offer, you or your VR Counselor will need to move quickly to buy any equipment you don't have and arrange for the communications services you need to perform your job. You must have everything installed and working correctly by the start date of the class for which NTI scheduled you.

Please note that VR agencies will usually pay for part or all of your unmet equipment needs.

  8. What would my hours, pay, and training schedule be?

Hours, pay, and the required training and schedule for each position vary widely and cannont be generally predicted. . NTI hires applicants who meet specific job requirements laid out in contracts with hiriing customers. NTI will inform you of the job information either during a pre-screening interview or during the job interview.

Customer Service positions pay from $8-$15 per hour. Some jobs may provide health and welfare benefits. However, most virtual jobs do not. Actual wages vary depending upon the skills required for the job. Some jobs with the federal government use pay scales set by the Department of Labor. The rates for these jobs vary based on the county in which the employee lives.

  9. How quickly can NTI begin training me for a part-time or full-time telework position?

NTI is always prospecting for new government and commercial telework positions. Unfortunately, we can't predict when we can offer new jobs. We can't predict the skills we'll need, either. The requirements change depending on the openings. Finally, we can't predict the number of people we'll need at a given time. Sometimes, it's only 5; sometimes, it's 30.

If you have a disability and are interested in home-based work, you should complete NTI's online application. We keep the applications from all individuals whom we deem qualified for employment in our database, even if there are no current matching openings. When we locate new openings, we contact the qualified candidates in our database first to learn if they are still interested. We do expect to eventually to offer the majority of qualified consumers a telework position via NTI.

  10. Do I need to pay NTI anything for training or equipment?

NTI does not charge individuals with disabilities for training or support. State Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) agencies and federal grants pay for the training and support services NTI provides.

Most home-based employees do incur costs in setting up and running an office from home. Employees must provide their own computer and a high-speed modem. They must also pay for telephone service that charges a flat rate for long distance calls.

Many state VR agencies will pay for some or all of the equipment VR clients need to work from home.

  11. Do I have to complete a background check?

Sometimes, NTI contracts with employers who require new employees to pass a background check. This varies by customer and by contract. NTI will inform you if a check is needed either in the job posting or during your pre-screening interview.
