Introduction

Most housing assistance is federally funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and locally administered by either a Local Housing Authority(LHA or HA) or another not-for-profit organization that is community based. While you can begin your research online at the HUD Internet site, it will be best to check your eligibility and the availability of housing with your LHA.

Housing assistance includes:

  1. Protection from discrimination
  2. Housing counseling
  3. Subsidized rental assistance
  4. Homeownership assistance
