Introduction

Health insurance is available for recipients of Social Security Disability Income and Supplemental Security Income. (SSDI or SSI) As you remember from our first lesson, the Social Security Administration determines eligibility for Social Security or Supplemental Security benefits. Social Security Disability is based on your disability status and the work credits you have earned in the 10 years before that disability. Supplemental Security is based on need, and your income and assets are considered when determining the amount of your benefit. Even if you do not qualify for Social Security Disability because you have insufficient work credits, you may quality for SSI.

In this lesson we'll look at how you might continue your eligibility for these programs once you return to work.
