Executive Director

MJ Willard is the Executive Director of NTI, which she founded in 1995. Convinced that people with severe physical disabilities would welcome the chance to work from home, she pioneered research into placing this population into jobs as virtual call center agents. She has helped NTI win telework grants from the US Department of Rehabilitation Services, the Department of Labor, and the Mott, Robert Wood Johnston, Fidelity and AT&T Foundations. MJ telecommutes to NTI's Boston headquarters from her home in California, and travels often to Washington DC to meet with potential government clients. She received her doctorate in Behavioral Psychology from Boston University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Tufts New England School of Medicine.

Mission & History

Mission: NTI's mission is to support the disabled community and their caregivers by fostering opportunities through advocacy, workforce development, and economic empowerment.

Vision: Building a future where all people with disabilities have equal access and representation in employment opportunities and government policies.

National Telecommuting Institute, Inc. (NTI) offers high-quality, cost-effective virtual staffing services. Founded in 1995 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, NTI pursues its mission to identify and develop work-at-home jobs for individuals with disabilities and their family care givers. NTI has two programs; NTI@Home and LandAjob.

NTI can offer recruiting, human resources, payroll and training services. NTI@Home has provided trained work-at-home employees to some of the largest U.S. government agencies, Fortune 500 companies, and smaller businesses. All of whom wanted to outsource their customer service and technical support operations in order to reduce costs.

NTI has several partnerships with state and federal agencies such as the Social Security Administration (SSA) and Vocational Rehabilitation. NTI has been an Employment Network in the SSA’s Ticket to Work program since 2004. Several state Vocational Rehabilitation agencies send their clients to NTI@Home for job placement assistance, virtual training and job coaching services. NTI@Home since its inception has trained and placed over 10,000 Americans with Disabilities in jobs.
